This week has been anti-bullying week and children have been working hard in their classrooms to look at how to choose respect. This has been the theme of anti-bullying week this year. Children have also been learning about ways to look after their mental health. We have created two displays in school to showcase our work. You can see examples of other pieces of work on our class blogs.
Food Bank
Thank you so much for your continued donations to our food bank collection. This week Miss Austin, one of our parents, took the current food collection to the food bank for us. Some of our KS2 children collected the food together and passed it on to be shared. We love to support our community and world, helping in many different ways.
We remember them… 100 year anniversary of WW1
Today, our Year 5 children were asked to represent KS1 and KS2 and took a wreath, which was made by children in school, down to the cenotaph. Year 5 children also had a chance to see the wonderful WW1 display window in Shotton and Mr Cochrane kindly spoke to the children about the importance of remembering our soldiers in this anniversary year. The whole school held a one minute silence at 11 o’clock and all children completed work based around Remembrance Day.
Mini Vinnies at Croft House
This week, children from our Mini Vinnies group went with Mrs Wilson to Croft House to see the new magic activities table which has been purchased for residents with dementia. The children had a wonderful time there and really enjoyed meeting people in our community.
Fire Safety Talks
Today, fire crew from our local area came to speak to everyone in school and reminded us to stay safe over Bonfire Weekend. We learned about the importance of going to organised firework displays where fire safety is of the upmost importance. Thank you to the fire brigade for all of their help and advice.
Congratulations St Bernadette’s Team (Yellow Team)
Each team group has been working hard to earn points over the last half term. After the final total was collected in our celebration assembly, the winners were St Bernadette’s (yellow) team. To celebrate their wonderful achievement, they enjoyed a school cinema experience! The children are all excited to see which house wins the overall team points at the end of the next half term.
Autumn Disco
A fantastic time was had by all of the children who attended our Autumn Disco. Thank you to the FOOLLS who ran the event.
Curriculum Awareness Evening
Thank you to all of the families who attended our Curriculum Awareness event. It was very popular and we had some wonderful feedback, especially about how confidently the children at each stall shared important information with our visitors. Teachers and children spoke about the different ways that learning can be supported by parents at home. Staff were also able to share the key areas of development in each subject and how subjects are assessed. We hope to continue to have more information evenings like this in the future.
Mental Health Awareness Day
October the 10th was Mental Health awareness day and all of the children in school focussed on learning about keeping our minds, as well as our body, healthy. Each class produced some wonderful work. Please see our class blogs. Below are some links to important websites which will give you more information about Mental Health Awareness.
