We all had a fantastic time today completing our fun run. We enjoyed celebrating sport, we supported each other and we all helped to raise money through our sponsorships.

Today was National Poetry Day! All of the children in school read different poetry, performed poetry and looked at how language is used. As well as this, our KS2 children took part in a live poetry lesson from the BBC.
Have a look at class blogs to see the lovely work covered today. We enjoyed learning all about poetry.
Here are some lovely resources linked to poetry you may wish to share with your child.
Please remember that school photographs take place on the morning of Monday 1st October.
We invite you to join us on Wednesday 3rd October, at 2:15 pm, for our Macmillan Coffee afternoon. Cake donations are much appreciated and can be brought to school on Wednesday morning. Please leave these at the office, on the veranda or with your child’s teacher. Thank- you in advance.
Friday 5th October is our school ‘Fun Run’. This will take place on the afternoon. We would appreciate your kind sponsorship to support our children in this activity – sponsorship forms have already been sent home. Your child will have a fantastic afternoon taking part in this event and they can wear their PE kit or fancy dress, whichever they prefer. (This is an in school event but we will post lots of photographs to show you how well all of our children do in this activity).
Wednesday 10th October is our Curriculum Awareness evening. This will be a great opportunity to learn about our curriculum and how school and parents can support children in their learning. It is a good chance to ask any questions you may have and to see all of the exciting learning which will be taking place in school this year.
We look forward to seeing you all at some of these events.
Thank you for the amazing response to our first reading challenge. We have had some wonderful photographs and we will be making a display with them in school. If you have not yet had a chance to send your picture then please feel free to bring them in over the next few weeks. All teachers have given children the chance to read in different places this week, so everyone has had a great try at completing their first challenge.
Well done.
The next reading challenge will be sent out in October.
Reading is so important for our children. They develop their imagination and writing skills by reading a wide variety of books. This year we are continuing to develop the reading provision in school, creating a new library area and developing more peer-peer reading opportunities.
Over the next year, children will be set lots of reading challenges to develop their reading skills. A letter has gone home tonight which explains our September challenge.
Your task is to take a picture in an exciting place, reading your favourite book. Staff are also taking part in this. We can’t wait to see all of the wonderful places you are caught reading.
All staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School would like to wish all of our children and their families a warm welcome back after the summer break. We would especially like to welcome all of our new starters and look forward to watching their journey over their time as part of our school family. Staff are very excited for the new term ahead and are looking forward to all of the exciting learning opportunities that it will bring. We hope that you have all had a wonderful holiday and are ready to return to school, well rested.
Please remember that at Our Lady of Lourdes School we have an open door policy and if you have any questions or queries about your child’s learning then staff will be happy to help you.
The Year 6 Final Assembly was a wonderful event for our children and their families to come together and celebrate their time at Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School. The children spoke beautifully about their memories from school and their singing was amazing. Thank you to all of the family and friends who came to support the children this afternoon. We hope that everyone enjoyed coming together to wish our Year 6 children good luck for their future and to enjoy some Afternoon Tea.
Well done to all of our Year 6 children for their amazing ‘Pantastic’ performances. All children demonstrated their fantastic talents and had a wonderful time taking part in the show. A big thank you also goes to everyone who came to watch the performances and supported the children.
This week is Drowning Prevention Week. All of our children have spent some time during their Sports Week learning about how to stay safe when they are taking part in water sports or playing near to, or around, water.
To share some of the important messages the children have been learning this week, here is a link to the RNLI website. The website provides some important tips about how to keep your child safe around water.
