A group of students from the University of Sunderland carried out some practical science investigations with class 4. We asked lots of questions.
As part of our Science topic, Humans and other animals, class 4 have been learning about the digestive system. We made our own systems and had lots of fun in the process. This also linked with our book, Vesuvius Poovius, about the Roman, who invented the toilet.
Class 4 carried out an investigation into the effects of drinks on teeth. We used the shells of eggs, as this is similar to our teeth. We left one egg in each drink for one week, then observed what happened to the egg shells. Class 4 thought that the coke would cause the most damage because it contained lots of sugar. However, were surprised to find that it was the fruit juice. This is because there are natural sugars in fruit juice.
Year 4 have been practising their mental addition skills by playing a pairs game to match up the numbers to make 10, 100 and 1000.
Segedunum Roman Fort in Wallsend welcomed some trainee soldiers from Class 4 on Tuesday. They tried on their new uniforms, swore allegiance and undertook training exercises. There was even some time to visit the remains of Hadrian’s Wall.
Class 4 have settled back into school well after the holidays. Today they very much enjoyed their drumming lesson with Jamie.
Mr Hodgkinson came into school with some Lego WeDo. We worked together (collaborated) to build a fan and make it move forwards and backwards. Then, we added a sensor to make it operate whenever the sensor was blocked. Who knew that we had some budding engineers in Class 4!
Class 4 have been following instructions to make origami animals. We had great fun! We can’t wait to go on the website and make some more at home.
