Homework
Homework should be fun as well as educational. We operate a system of half-termly Homework Menus, whereby spellings are given for the full half term, along with a selection of activities, from which children can choose to complete one each week. We understand that children learn in a variety of different ways and are offering more flexibility in the way your child chooses to learn their weekly spelling lists. A selection of spelling activities can be found here. Please note that a single page of spelling practise, in homework books, is adequate each week.
Weekly spelling scores will be written on your child’s homework each week and words spelled correctly in the spelling test will be highlighted.
Teaching Styles
At Our Lady of Lourdes School we are very well resourced with a range of key staff available to support your child’s learning journey. Our staff have a wealth of experience and have supported children with a wide and varied range of needs.
Our SENCOs continually review the qualification needs of our team to ensure they match the needs of the children that we have in school and additional training is arranged if required. This ensures that teaching styles and methods are appropriate and up to date, enabling SEND children maximum access to the EYFS/Primary curriculum.
In addition, all school staff receive specialist support and training on strategies to use when supporting children with a range of moderate and more specific learning needs. As a team, we continually support each other and share expertise to ensure our teaching styles can be adapted appropriately, enabling all of our children to reach their full potential and beyond.
At Our Lady of Lourdes School, children with SEND are supported in a variety of ways in order to successfully match pupil ability to the curriculum:
- Differentiated learning materials
- Access to ICT and Technology
- Additional in class support
- Additional out of class support
- Many ‘enrichment and enjoyment’ opportunities to stimulate and motivate learning
- Flexible groupings – including small group support work
- An innovative and supportive curriculum
- The appropriate use of rewards and sanctions
- A broad range of extra-curricular activities, one to one support and booster/extension sessions
- Assessment procedures that emphasise pupils’ strengths and achievements
- Applications during national testing at Key Stage 2 to obtain access arrangements as appropriate
We offer a broad and balanced curriculum, which is fully inclusive and bespoke to our children. Additional staff are employed to enhance the provision of music/the arts and P.E. Our Lady of Lourdes School believes that children should be given opportunities ‘to shine’ and develop skills in all areas aspects of their life.
