Parent Workshops

2 February 2017 By spidrwebadmin

Thank- you to all parents who attended our parent workshops this week. We have had extremely positive feedback from parents about the strategies shared to help them support their child’s learning at home. Parents enjoyed seeing their children demonstrating some of the methods we use in each class.

We will be offering more workshops like these in the future. We have a reading workshop planned over the next half term, so please keep an eye on the news letter for the date.

Thank- you for your continued support.

‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ – What a wonderful writing day!

10 January 2017 By spidrwebadmin

Today, we had a special writing day at school. We worked hard to create our own pieces of writing based around the story,  ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen. At Our Lady of Lourdes school we love to write and every class had a go at interpreting the story in their own way.

  • Class 1 sequenced the story and created their own art work.
  • Class 2 wrote descriptive pieces, improving the descriptive writing in the story.
  • Class 3 wrote their own instructions about how to catch a bear.
  • Class 4 wrote rhyming poetry hunting for their favourite animal.
  • Class 5 wrote a children’s book about a hunt around Shotton.
  • Class 6 wrote a version of the story called ‘We’re going on a Zombie Hunt’.

We were very lucky as we had Adam Bushnell in school, inspiring us all with our writing. He is an author and storyteller who helped us to make our writing even more special. Over the last few years, Adam has worked with us before and he will be coming back into school over the next half term. It is a wonderful experience for our children to work with an author. If you want to find out more about Adam, please visit his website www.adambushnell.co.uk

Each class will finish their writing over the week and pictures and examples will be shared on Class Blogs. Please keep checking over the week to see what a wonderful experience we all had.

WE ARE ALL AMAZING AUTHORS!

Merry Christmas from all staff.

22 December 2016 By spidrwebadmin

After an exciting few weeks building up to Christmas, all of the children had a lovely last day in school. We had our end of term Mass, which was very reflective and reminded us again of the true meaning of Christmas.

All of the staff at Our Lady of Lourdes School would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We hope your holidays together are happy and holy.

Pantomime!

16 December 2016 By spidrwebadmin

The whole school had the most wonderful time at the Pantomime yesterday. We went to the Sunderland Empire and watched a performance of ‘Sleeping Beauty’. It was funny, exciting and had some brilliant special effects. All of the children also loved singing along to lots of well known songs and of course there were lots of ‘ Oh no he isn’t’ and ‘ She’s behind you’!

The  trip to the Pantomime was the perfect way to begin our final Christmas celebrations next week. Children will have their Christmas Party on Monday, Christmas dinner on Tuesday and they will attend Mass on Thursday. We have lots of things to look forward to over the next week.

We would like to say a big ‘Thank- you’  to all of the children who entered our Road Safety Competition, led by our Junior Road Safety Team.

Here are our Road Safety team (Georgia, Katie and Harley) in front of the Road Safety notice board, presenting our KS1  and KS2 winners (Matthew, Gracie, Lydia and Milly) with their prizes. Well done everyone.
