Class 5 and Class 6 took part in a fun PE lesson today about hockey. We learned how to stop a ball and how to perform a push pass. We’re looking forward to building our skills over the coming weeks to use in a game situation.
The Water Cycle
Today, Year 6 have been learning about the Water Cycle.
The children worked together to make a variety of different projects to show how the Water Cycle works.
Once the children had finished they explained the Water Cycle to their buddies from Reception Class.
Classification keys
Today in Class 6, we continued to study classification. We looked at existing classification keys to unpick how they work and created our own classification keys for liquorice allsorts.
Design and Technology Project – Trap Building
This week, Class 5 and Class 6 have been taking part in a design project to design and build a humane animal trap. We evaluated existing traps, designed our own traps using a design brief and then built them from recyclable materials. We had a lot of fun designing and building our traps!
The Year 6 children enjoyed a visit from the Foundation of Light. They took part in a session linked to ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ and thoroughly enjoyed this experience.
Recycling advice
Today we had an important visitor in school. Our visitor works for Durham County Council and he came to talk to us about the importance of recycling correctly. We discovered that the recycling we throw away can often be reused to save energy and help our environment. We are going to make sure to share our learning with everyone at home so we can check that we are recycling correctly.
The science of blood
In Class 6, we have been looking at blood. We studied the components of blood and their function. We made models of human blood using Cheerios, marshmallows, food colouring ad orange juice.
Year 6 have enjoyed learning all about the work that the PDSA carry out. They spent time working together in groups debating the best living conditions for various pets. They have learned so many new and interesting facts.
We are extremely proud of our art work linked to our topic ‘Animals of the World’. What a talented bunch we are!
Experimenting with heart rate
In Class 6, we have been looking at heart rates. We took part in an experiment to see how exercise alters heart rate. We used a control group to compare how the heart rates were affected by exercise. We wrote up our results and drew conclusions based on our findings.
