In RE this week, Year 6 have been making stained glass windows to represent unity. They have been looking at what it means to be a part of Jesus and God’s family and how we can promote unity in our lives.

Year 6 have had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day. We started the morning with some art work based around our work on Victorian Fairy tales and the book ‘The Selfish Giant’. Our parents even came in to help us to create some wonderful display work.
We then completed three different activities linked to reading . We learned about the work of a famous author, Shakespeare, performed some poetry and debated what would have happened if Fairy Tale characters had behaved in different ways. We all had a marvelous time celebrating stories and books on World Book Day.
This week we have been learning about other faiths. We had an assembly all about Judaism and we have been completing some work in class.
We worked in groups to make presentations about being unique and having different opinions, but still belonging to God’s family.
Class 6 will be leading the Mass on Friday 10th February 2017.
Mass will start at 9:30 am and there will be refreshments in school after Mass. All are welcome.
We look forward to seeing you there.
Over the last few weeks, Class 6 have been learning all about the Victorians. We have been researching life for Victorian children today and next week we will write a non-chronological report with these facts.
Year 6 had an amazing time with Adam Bushnell. We re-wrote the classic children’s book ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ and we made our own horror story. The writing we produced was amazing.
Well done Year 6
We had an amazing time at the Youth Village. I am so impressed with how the children behaved and how respectful they were.
So far we are having an amazing time at the youth village. We have taken part in art, dance and drama sessions and made new friends. We are so proud of how well behaved, enthusiastic and respectful all of our children are being.
We haven’t been able to take many photographs as the children are in mixed groups with other schools but we will post as many as we can.
Keep checking the blog for updates.
In French today, Class 6 have been learning all about ‘ The Galette de rois’, which is the festival to celebrate Epiphany, in France. The children learned all about the cake used in this festival.
A description of the cake suggests it is, “composed of a puff pastry cake, with a small charm, the fève, hidden inside. It is usually filled with frangipane, a cream made from sweet almonds, butter, eggs and sugar. Every year, the leading French pâtissiers make these cakes ready for the tradition of crowning the one who finds the fève.” (http://www.ambafrance-ca.org/The-galette-des-rois-a-very-French)
The person who finds the gift or favor in the cake, can be crowned King or Queen of the festival.
We really enjoyed learning about other cultures today.
