In French today, Class 6 have been learning all about ‘ The Galette de rois’, which is the festival to celebrate Epiphany, in France. The children learned all about the cake used in this festival.
A description of the cake suggests it is, “composed of a puff pastry cake, with a small charm, the fève, hidden inside. It is usually filled with frangipane, a cream made from sweet almonds, butter, eggs and sugar. Every year, the leading French pâtissiers make these cakes ready for the tradition of crowning the one who finds the fève.” (http://www.ambafrance-ca.org/The-galette-des-rois-a-very-French)
The person who finds the gift or favor in the cake, can be crowned King or Queen of the festival.
We really enjoyed learning about other cultures today.
