Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Day
Year 6 had lots of fun on Jubilee Day. The children enjoyed learning all about the Queen’s reign and why this milestone is so special. In particular we focused on key events in the Queen’s life from 2010 – present day. We came to school dressed in the colours of red, white and blue. We had a themed day planned with lots of entertainment, a special lunch, singing and fun activities. At the end of the school day, parents joined us on the school yard and we sang some songs to pay tribute to the queen. This was a lovely finale to a special and memorable day for us all.
Year 6 Transition Liturgy
As part of the Year 6 transition to St Bede’s, the children had the opportunity to visit the school and celebrate a liturgy in the chapel. The theme of the liturgy was transition. Through their readings and singing the children had an opportunity to reflect on their time at Our Lady of Lourdes, and they gave thanks for their time at Primary School and for the friendships they have made. “No matter what the future holds, with God at the centre of our lives we know that we can step forward as young adults in His wonderful world”. It was an honour to be the first Primary School to take part in the transition liturgies.
Random Acts of Kindness
Random Acts of Kindness Day was celebrated on Thursday 17th February. To mark this day, children in Year 6 decided to spread their own act of kindness. Each child was given two heart templates. They included lovely comments about their buddies in Y1 and staff around school. What a lovely idea Year 6.
Science Simulation
This afternoon, as part of the Heart Project, we carried out a simulation of the heart pumping blood around our body. This also linked to our Science work last term on the circulatory system.
Advent and Christmas Liturgy
To end our Advent/Christmas RE Unit, some of Class 6 took part in a liturgy. We celebrated our learning throughout the topic.
Liturgy with our buddies
Class 6 were very impressed with Year 1’s liturgy this morning. Afterwards, we had some time outside to exchange Christmas cards and played together.
