Experimenting with air resistance

4 May 2018 By spidrwebadmin

In science this week we have been experimenting with air resistance. We made parachutes of different sizes to see how the size would affect the fall. We found that the larger the parachute, the longer it took to hit the ground.

Advertising in English

27 April 2018 By spidrwebadmin

In Class 5 we have been looking at persuasive writing and advertising in English. As a part of this learning we created adverts for soft drinks. We had to assess the product to figure out the positives and what we could use as selling points in our adverts. We had fun learning and recorded adverts for our products.

Refracting light

2 February 2018 By spidrwebadmin

In our science lesson this week we have been learning about refracting light. We have carried out experiments using water to refract light and demonstrate the effects of refracted light. We made arrows change direction, pictures float and pictures disappear using nothing but water and light!

Reflecting on our learn

19 January 2018 By spidrwebadmin

We have been learning about light in science this week. We were learning about the angle of incident and the angle of reflection when light is reflected. We recreated this using torches and mirrors. We also made the projector show our work on the back wall of our classroom!

Happy Anniversary!

12 January 2018 By spidrwebadmin

This week we have been celebrating the 90th anniversary of our school opening. We have learnt about school life in 1928 and that there were some major differences between our school back then and our school now. We aged paper (using tea to stain it) and wrote an explanation text about the differences between school in 1928 and school in 2018.

Feeling Festive!

1 December 2017 By spidrwebadmin

The children in Class 5 have really enjoyed getting ready for the Christmas fair. They have been making snowmen tree decorations using battery powered tea lights. The best bit was drawing the faces on the snowmen. We hope that lots of people had a chance to view our snowmen (and hopefully buy one!)

We have had a lovely afternoon learning about science. Visiting teachers taught us all a lot of interesting science experiments. We learnt about the human body, made lava lamps and made exploding volcanoes amongst other experiments!

In the hot seat!

17 November 2017 By spidrwebadmin

In history this week we used a drama technique called “hot seating”. We researched Henry VIII’s wives and found out about them. We then acted like them when asked a series of questions. It was interesting to see how we thought the wives would have acted and what they would have said!
