Today we learnt about Ancient Greek theatre. The plays would only have 3 actors performing all of the roles. They would wear masks to show the different characters that they were playing. We had a go at acting today, using a scene from Theseus and the Minotaur. We really got into character for our performances!
Science experiments
In science this week we have been investigating water transport in plants. As a class we designed an experimental methodology to test water transport in plants by using food colouring in water. We are going to monitor our experiment for a few days to see what happens to the flowers.
Debating our learning
Today in Class 5 we learned about Sparta and Athens. They were very different in Ancient Greece and we held a debate to decide which one was better. We got into character for our debate and really enjoyed sharing our ideas with each other. After sharing our ideas we still couldn’t decide which one was better!
The science of plants
Today in Class 5 we learnt about the components of flowering plants. We then dissected real plants to identify those components. It was great to take part in such a practical science lesson.
Judo experience
Today we had an exciting visit from a local Judo instructors. They taught us how to perform a Judo hold and a Judo throw. We really enjoyed working with our visitors in a sport that was new to ,PST of us.
Welcome to our new Class 5!
We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new Class 5. As we have been in a new class with a new teacher we have been looking at what makes us unique. We have created lots of artwork this week, including creating our own fruit face portraits. We also worked together to create leaves and plants for our science display.

Drowning Prevention Week
This week is Drowning Prevention Week. All of our children have spent some time during their Sports Week learning about how to stay safe when they are taking part in water sports or playing near to, or around, water.
To share some of the important messages the children have been learning this week, here is a link to the RNLI website. The website provides some important tips about how to keep your child safe around water.

Residential Trip
Year 5 and 6 children had an amazing time on their trip to Northumberland, earlier this week. The first day was spent visiting Holy Island, the second day was a busy day in Edinburgh, exploring the zoo and castle, and the final day took us to Bamburgh to learn about the history of the castle.
All of the children had a fantastic time and their behaviour was superb. It was so nice to have received lots of comments from the Explore4All staff, staff at the youth hostel and tour guides about how respectful the children were.
Here are some pictures from our trip. More will be sent home by the end of term for children who wish to have them.
Thanks to all of the children, staff and Explore4All team for a great few days away.
Parliament Day
We have had an exciting afternoon in Class 5 today. We had visitors who were talking to us about parliament. One of our visitors was our local MP Grahame Morris. We took part in an exciting workshop, in which we formed political parties. We created names and manifestos for our parties. The parties from Class 5 then had to give speeches about why they should be elected and we all took part in a vote. We had a lot of fun and learnt a lot about the important political processes in our country.
The Twits
Class 5 children had a fantastic time decorating the door. Our door was based on the book The Twits. We all showed off our creative sides well. Thank-you to all of the family members who came to help us.
