Year 5 have really enjoyed our outdoor learning sessions so far! We’ve taken part in scavenger hunts, used flints to create sparks and even made roasted marshmallows and hot chocolate!
Making poppies
Class 5 have really enjoyed making poppies for our whole school remembrance.
Chasing shadows
We have been tracking our shadows this week! We realised that our shadows move across the day, rather than staying in one place. This is because our planet is constantly rotating, meaning that the sun changes position in our sky during the day
National Poetry Day
Today we celebrated National Poetry Day. We took part in a poetry lesson based around truth (delivered by Simon Mole, a professional poet). We wrote our own truth poetry and added a bit of a spin to make them interesting for our readers.
Science Models
In our science lessons we have been studying space. Today we made scale models of the solar system in the hall. We found that (in our scale model) the moon was a peppercorn, the Earth was a pea and the sun would be a basketball! We estimated the distances and then made the models correctly to scale. We were amazed at how far away the sun actually is from our planet.
Robinwood Residential Years 5/6
Here are some of the photos for the Mountain group. Once again we were very impressed with the excellent attitudes of all of our children during our trip.
Robinwood Residential Years 5/6
The children from Years 5/6 had an amazing time on their residential to Robinwood. All of our children showed determination, resilience and exemplary manners and everyone who met them commented on their excellent attitude and behaviour- we are so proud. While we were away, during the day, the children were split into two groups (Mountains and Crags) and we took photos on two different iPads. We had problems when trying to upload the photos whilst at Robinwood. We’ ve managed to upload these photos from one of our iPads, we’ll update the blog again on Monday with the other photos. We hope you enjoy looking through the photos of our adventure and get a flavour of the risks that were taken, the fears that were overcome, the fun that was had and the special memories that were made.
Have a super weekend.
The Big Play
We all gathered in the hall to sing the Big Play songs we have been learning. We even learnt how to perform them using sign language! Well Done Everyone!!
Archery
This week, Class 5 and Class 6 had a go at archery, using compound bows and arrows in the school hall! We really enjoyed trying archery and we all would love to do it again.
Outdoor learning
We have been trying outdoor learning today, using yard chalk to draw and group angles
