Myanmar Fundraiser- Children2Children

We have been delighted to welcome Fr. Peter into our school and parish family. He has made such an impact upon us all with his kind and caring manner and his willingness to visit and get to know our children. Fr. Peter told us many interesting stories about the country where he was born, Myanmar, and also stories about the many struggles that families and children have there. In discussion with Fr. Peter we thought about what we as a school could do to help children back in his country. Our Prayer Leaders had a meeting back in February and decided that they would like to sell biscuits each week to raise money for the children of Myanmar- a project they have named Children2Children. Our school kitchen, each week has baked delicious biscuits which parents have bought each Friday at the end of the school day. So far we have raised over £300 for the children of Myanmar, Fr Peter is delighted and told us that £300 is more than most adults would earn in 1 year in Myanmar . We are very proud of our children for taking a leading role in the organisation of the fundraising for this wonderful cause- it really is a brilliant example of Catholic Social Teaching in action. A huge thank you to all within our community who continue to support this fundraiser and to our cooks who make the biscuits each week.

Class 3 Liturgical Prayer

Class 3 children led parents in a beautiful liturgical prayer focusing on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. The were reverent and respectful as they shared the message of how Jesus kept his promise to send his special friend and the power that the Holy Spirit instantly had upon the disciples. The children eloquently shared their mission with their parents and invited parents to go forth and use their gifts from the Holy Spirit to do good for those in our school and wider community.

Mini-Vinnies Letter Writing

Our wonderful Mini Vinnies children enjoyed taking the time to write letters to the most isolated and vulnerable members of our parish. Within the letters, the children reminded those in our Parish family just how much they are loved and remembered in our prayers h day. We are sure these letters will be very well received and appreciated.

The Society of St Vincent de Paul has been engaging with young people and education since its earliest days. Today, the SVP of England and Wales is pleased to highlight its continuing strong links with young people, through the development of its ‘Mini Vinnies’ programme

‘Mini Vinnies’ are children aged between 7 to 11 who, with the permission of their parents and the support of their Schools, are encouraged to embark on their first steps as possible ‘Vincentians for life’. As Mini Vinnies, the youngsters have their own ‘treasured’ Prayer, Pledge and Badge, a dedicated website and a range of bright and colourful documents which guide them in their formative steps – helping and enabling them to become in every sense, young Vincentians – or ‘Mini Vinnies’.

 

Our Lady of Lourdes Mini Vinnies are a group of children from Years 4,5 and 6 who have taken a pledge to be part of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. They meet every Thursday to think about ways in which they can help to support people in our school and Parish family.

Our Mini-Vinnies take their role very seriously and work on a simple principle of  ‘See, think, do’. They see a need, they think about what they can do to help and then they do it.

Our Mini-Vinnies, have organised coffee afternoons for members of the Parish, have visited Croft House (a local care home) to sing for the residents and spend time with them. They have planned and made up Lenten bags which they then distributed to Parish members and they regularly make and share prayer cards with the Parish and school community. The children have taken great pride in collecting donations of food from the Parish which they have combined with school donations to make up hampers for our local families and foodbank. Most recently, our Mini-Vinnie’s have organised a fundraising appeal for the children in Fr. Peter’s country in Mayanmar: who are living in difficult and dangerous conditions. The project which has been named ‘Children2Children’, involves our school kitchen making biscuits each Friday which are then sold at the end of the day. All money raised goes to the children of Mayanmar.

Our Mini Vinnies have such a positive impact upon the lives of those within our Parish and wider community.

Queen Elizabeth II Condolences

With Deepest Sympathy…

On behalf of all of the children, staff, governors, families and wider school community, we would like to take this opportunity to express how deeply saddened and moved we all are after hearing the news of the passing of our wonderful Queen- Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The Queen was a lady that we all admired and respected for her loyal and committed service, she shone like a beacon to others and led the way as a role model to all. She was committed, compassionate and extended a warmth to others during her service as our Queen.

Whilst steadfast in her role and duties as a stateswoman, showing dignity and consistency, Queen Elizabeth was a kind-hearted and loving wife, mother and grandmother who has left a lasting impression upon her country, commonwealth and us all.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will be admired and respected for generations to come for the true and inspiring lady that she was. Through our school values of love, learn, grow and inspire we aspire to let our light shine, just as our Queen has done during her 70 years of dedicated service, and will remember her with fondness, admiration and pride.
