As part of our Shakespeare topic, Year 6 children have been focusing on a murder mystery challenge. They have been looking at working out who killed King Duncan. All of the children were amazing detectives. The looked at quotes, evidence and suspects. We then read some more of the play and we were surprised by who actually killed the King!
Year 6 children had a fantastic time taking part in Judo today. We had an amazing time working in pairs and learning about keeping safe in the sport.
On Friday 4th October, Year 6 children decided to have a debate about which invention we thought had made the most difference to the world – the internet or medicine. Our debating skills were fantastic and we all put our points across very well. We presented our information and came up with our own arguments and opinions.
Lumiere comes to Durham every two years and the children in Year 6 enjoy taking part in science projects which are linked around the festival.
This year, Year 6 (and some of Year 5) children have been working with Helen, from the Lumiere project, to look at patterns in nature. We looked at our eyes and the patterns inside of them. We created our own snowflake patterns and we used the microscope to find out more about patterns in tiny substances. We even created art work based on wonderful patterns and designs in nature.
Class 6 children have been working hard over the past few weeks to become leaders in our school. They looked at what it means to be a leader, and have contributed ideas about what they want to introduce to have an impact on our school. The children worked in small groups and even started by helping to measure and lay out our new reading benches. Over the next half term, we will be developing our roles and responsibilities within school.
Our Class 6 children are really enjoying Macbeth, by William Shakespeare. Over the last week, we have been performing some of our own Macbeth scenes. Some groups turned Macbeth’s meeting with the witches into a football match, some turned it into a MacDonald’s drive through and some of our performances were more traditional. All of the children worked extremely well and produced a fantastic opening scene.
Year 6 children have been reading and writing numbers up to 10,000,000. We use our practical tools to help us and we have been answering a range of different questions. Excellent maths work.
Our Year 6 children have had a fantastic first full week back in school. They have started the term enthusiastically, working hard and producing some excellent work. We have been looking at Mayan temples, the opening scenes of Macbeth and writing and reading numbers to 10,000,000.
I am extremely pleased with their fantastic start to life in Year 6.
