Fairtrade Fortnight

Today marks the start of Fairtrade Fortnight. During this time, every class will be learning how we can ensure that farmers and workers in poor countries are paid fairly for their work and are able to live a dignified life.

Roman Aqueducts

We spent the last afternoon of half term making Roman Aqueducts. We had found out what they were and how they worked before designing our own. We had thought about the materials to use and what would make our designs successful.

Reaching for the stars!

Today in Class 5, we have been looking at stars. We have studied what they are made of and watched a practical demonstration about how stars burn. Then we used sweets to model the constellations!

Design and Technology Project – Trap Building

This week, Class 5 and Class 6 have been taking part in a design project to design and build a humane animal trap. We evaluated existing traps, designed our own traps using a design brief and then built them from recyclable materials. We had a lot of fun designing and building our traps!

Online Safety

Thank you to all parents who attended our Online Safety sessions. It was lovely to see so many parents come to share our learning about staying safe and being responsible online. This followed on from our whole school Safer Internet Day, following the theme of Together for a Better Internet. Feedback was very positive from all parents who attended.

Chocolate in Science

Class 4 had great fun melting chocolate to find out about how temperature can affect the state of materials. We found out that the higher the temperature, the quicker the chocolate melted.

The Year 6 children enjoyed a visit from the Foundation of Light.  They took part in a session linked to ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ and thoroughly enjoyed this experience.

Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week

This week we have been learning about how important our mental health is. We have enjoyed taking part in lots of mindfulness activities to help us deal with our emotions. On Friday we really enjoyed our yoga session that really helped us to relax.

Children’s Mental Health Week

To mark Children’s Mental Health Week, we had a whole class discussion about how to look after our mental health. The focus this year is “Healthy: Inside and Out”. We designed “mind fruit”,  a special fruit that has positive impacts on our mental health.

Recycling Assembly

On Monday, the whole school had an information session on recycling. We found out what happens to our rubbish and what we can do to reduce waste by recycling efficiently. Please encourage your child to help our environment by helping out with recycling at home.
